My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh: A Virtual Immersive Literary Supperclub 

On 1st May 2020 we hosted our first virtual literary supperclub. What more fitting subject for lockdown than Ottessa Moshfegh's darkly comic story of chemical hibernation, My Year of Rest and Relaxation? Gathering ten pyjama-clad readers based in London, Devon, Madrid and Seville, we discussed voluntary self-isolation in fiction versus its mandatory counterpart in reality. Dining off tablescapes featuring roses, pills and pizza boxes, we did a quiz on the book and analysed its themes and characters over Pad See Ew and Häagen-Dazs.
